I was injured while on vacation in Hawaii and actually was referred to Shim and Chang by an attorney that had litigated against them in the past. I was told that if she were in my position that is who she would contact. Immediately that was a plus and a relief for me as I live in Arizona and had no idea where to start. I received a call from Harvey who asked pertinent questions regarding the incident. Immediately I was impressed by his honesty- he wanted to make sure we had a case before going forward- and his thoroughness in the questions he asked. When the condo owner living above us caused water damage to our condo, we were displaced for nearly two months. When his insurance carrier refused to compensate us for the inconvenience and the temporary housing cost, we hired the law firm of Shim and Chang to help us. They were easy to talk to, knowledgeable, and very professional. In March of 2016, my mother passed away after complications from an endoscopy exam. After getting no reasonable explanation from her physician, I knew I had to get answers somehow. My mom was an otherwise healthy 69 year old with a history of small bowel obstructions. I tried to find the best lawyers in Honolulu and landed upon their website. The legal process is extremely hostile toward ordinary citizens suing doctors or hospitals, but Matthew Winter, Kirsten Bennett, Thomas Otake and all the other amazing people there guided me through the lawsuit and into trial. I owe a debt of gratitude to them, as I now know what happened to my mother. I believe that universal healthcare is long overdue in this country, but until then we need firms like Davis Levin Livingston to help victims of medical negligence in a for-profit healthcare system run by pharmaceutical and insurance companies. Highly recommend them.

In the 3 years it took to resolve our case, I became good friends with Matt Winter, one of the many amazing lawyers and staff members who worked on my case. Yesterday, I had emailed several law firms, regarding a personal injury I had received from an assault 3 years ago. Due to the circumstances of my case, I knew the chances were slim that I could seek any restitution, but I needed to try, nonetheless. I was in a car accident in Kona, while vacationing and reached out to Ian's firm after flying home. Ian is great. His son, Scott, is great. The real workhorse was their associate, Rachel Otto. I worked very closely with her for almost 3 years. She is clear, responsive, compassionate and very hard working. I always felt I was in the very best professional hands after my frequent chats with Rachel. As we moved to close the case and settle, Scott made some suggestions but ultimately made clear that he was working for me and I was ultimately in complete control.
