This is a review of my excellent experiences I had with this law firm. There were two attorneys assigned to my case, Faith Corbaley and Jose Contreras. Both are from the San Diego office. My case is a child support matter which started in 2012. Also in 2012, I moved to the Philippines. I am now retired and living on a fixed income from SS and OPM pensions. Being on a fixed income, I can no longer afford my support payments and my ex spouse is unwilling to change my support payments. As a result, I started being garnished from both my SS and OPM pensions for close to double the amount of the original monthly support payment. My lawyers submitted to the court an Income and Expense Declaration statement on my behalf and it shows that my expenses exceeded my income. Additional documents were also filed to the court by my lawyers and a court hearing was scheduled. The San Diego Child Support Services also conducted an audit and the outcome showed that a total of $3K was overpaid from the garnishments. At the court hearing, the judge reviewed all the documents submitted including the audit. After reviewing all the documents, the judge ordered the release of my two garnishments and ordered my ex spouse to reimburse me for the overpayments to be paid in monthly installments. Also, the judge ordered my ex spouse to pay some of my attorney fees payable in monthly installments. Finally, based on the Income and Expense Declaration document and other documents reviewed, the judge ordered my monthly child support, past due, and arrears be reduced and set to zero. I highly recommend Claery & Hammond for family law matters. especially my two attorneys, Faith Corbaley and Jose Contreras. Both are professional, courteous, knowledgeable, and aggressive attorneys. I feel comfortable and at ease when talking to them. It's like I am talking to two close friends or relatives and not as my attorneys. In summary, the work quality of my two attorneys in handling and resolving my case was beyond excellent. The case outcome would more likely be different and to the advantage of my ex spouse if I handled this case myself. I have used this firm three times in 10 years. Five stars each time. Divorce in 2010 with David representing me, then a property dispute with my ex in 2016 that worked out very favorably for me, and finally in helping me with a prenup (no jokes about not learning my lesson). Kyle is an easy going "surfer dude" who knows his stuff. When my fiance's lawyer wanted to add language at the last minute, he made a very reasonable and convincing argument (in front of that other lawyer) that was a slam dunk for my side. I hope I never need their services again but I would definitely recommend them. If you hire them, they are on your side and not trying to gouge you with superfluous "lawyer" billings.

After calling three or more other family law attorneys, and after explaining my situation, their response was "that my situation was one that they were not familiar with"or as one put it "would not know where to start", I was very relieved to have found Wilkinson & Finkbeiner. From the moment of my first call to the friendly and knowledgeable office person, who was able to understand my unique situation and also explained that Mr. Wilkinson had just recently had a case similar to mine, told me she was confident that he could help. Me and my husband were served papers from my 11 year old daughters father who had NEVER been involved with her EVER, but in between stints in prison, all of a sudden wanted custody and visitation. Went to court 3 times, due to him being arrested numerous times during the court proceedings. Finally we decided to get a lawyer to stop playing these games. We met Scott, and IMMEDIATELY knew we picked the right lawyer!! He ABSOLUTELY killed it in court, and actually got his RIGHTS TERMINATED......which in California is extremely difficult. DO NOT USE THESE GUYS! I initially spoke to Zephyr Hill who agreed to be my attorney. However, when he sent me the retainer agreement he switched me without notice to Michael Steiner- WHO IS A HORRIBLE ATTORNEY! I should have dropped them then. Basically Steiner would respond to emails and phone calls sporadically at best and when you speak to him he seems to have his mind elsewhere. The last straw was when he agreed to file an ex parte on my behalf, however, after I followed up with him days later he tells me " I decided not to file it." No explanation for not communicating this to me. I will be filing a complaint with the state bar. VERY DISAPPOINTED!

In the middle of a crisis, like a divorce where you need a lawyer, you need someone who can help you make sense of just about everything. Lowenstein Brown does just that! Michele and Liz are an incredible team, and they have a wonderful support staff! They focus on your goals and what you want (they like to point out “it is your life, and when we are gone you have to be happy with this”). They lay out the process and expectations very clearly. They work well with support counsel and outside specialists. You expect your lawyers to be good at the law – it was a wonderful experience to find two people who also have great compassion and sensitivity to what you are going through. They care and it shows in how they and their staff treat you from the first meeting to the last. I highly recommend Michele Lowenstein and Liz Brown.

Liz Brown represented my ex (I was pro per at the time), and lied to the judge about ownership of my daughter's college account. She told the judge that it was owned jointly by my husband and me, attempting to seize the funds for reunification costs. After I retained counsel, my lawyer was able to show the judge the documentation (which the judge himself had signed a few months prior) that proved that the college account was legally owned by my daughter. My ex was fined $2,000 for the lie. Liz Brown was not honest, inflicting on me an unnecessary court hearing to have to fight for my daughter's college fund. I would never recommend this lawyer, unless you want someone willing to lie and cheat for you.

Couple years of ago we have problem first with our adoption being contested. We got through with that issue with excellent help from Atty Lowenstein & Brown. Then it became an visitation rights issue and again with professional assistance from both Attys now we able to have a peace of mind. We have interviewed couple of lawyers but decided to hire them because we felt comfortable talking to them and gave us the real scope of the case with no promises. Also, the staff are very professional especially Katina. They are in constant contact with us with changes or need for more information.

Perhaps the thing that impressed me most about Michelle Paul was nothing was ever "sugar coated". She was very straight forward and told me what to expect each step of the way. Going thru the separation and divorce process from start to finish, Michelle kept me informed of each step and what the options were and what the risks were. There were no empty promises made just to keep the client happy which I know sometimes occurs when seeking counsel. Even though I filed for divorce, 6 months later I had a change of heart and decided to have Michelle stop the divorce two weeks before going to court. Stay away from Ms. Hearn unless you want incompetent representation and someone who only cares about cashing your checks. She "represented" a close friend in a custody dispute her with ex-husband. I am aware of everything she did and didn't do during the time she represented my friend as I was left to help clean up some of the mess. Ms Hearn failed to communicate with or respond to my friend repeatedly, failed to timely file important documents, claimed she served her adversary on dates when she never did, and failed to write letters to opposing counsel after repeated requests to do so. One of the letters she did write had to be completely rewritten because it looked like it was written by a third grader. My friend was forced to hire another local attorney and now she is severely prejudiced because of Ms. Hearn's gross ineffective assistance. The absolute ONLY thing she cares about is getting paid. I'd search for another attorney in the area if you need help because Ms. Hearn is not the answer you are looking for.

I had great expectations for Ben and his crew, but what I got was subpar legal representation to say the least.. Sons mom filed a move away request out of the blue, and at first I was even contemplating whether, or not to even hire an attorney,because her allegations were so farcical, over the top, completely untrue, unfounded, and unbelievable. but with so much at stake I decided I would play it safe, and just pay the professionals. From the start I had questions about what was going on with my case, Ben, and his crew, are good at making invoices , and running up the bill, but they will not work for you. During the months leading up to the,” $8000 dollar train wreck”. I was never prompted for evidence, I was never called I had to voluntarily scan, and PDF evidence over to his office on my own, sometimes I would get a confirmation email, other times I would not. I asked if I could bring my emails, pictures, and text messages in for them to scan, and build my case file, but they fully took advantage of the COVID-19 restrictions saying, “ they weren’t allowing people personal visits into the office, because of the COVID”. This was another way they could focus on bringing in new retainer fees, and focus on the money aspect of it, opposed to the defense, and actual representation aspect of it. Guys do not hire these people, they will loose your case, you have been warned. On the day of the evidentiary hearing, evidence linking mom to illicit activities, gambling, and prescription drug abuse, was not presented. In addition threats made to me by other parties on moms side, like death threats, threats to come to my house, pictures of new gun purchases, and people holding them,that were sent to me, were not presented at the hearing. Upon cross examining me, Ben repeatedly asked me questions related to corporal punishment of my son, and stepson, the purpose of which, I still have not figured out. In the end the Judge ruled capriciously , chopping up family code section “ 3040” , while Ben just sat there like a deer in the headlights. I lost the half custody of my son, to a person with a history of bad child parenting, with a history of violent convicted felons, and drug addicts in the home. My exhibit list was virtually non existent, very few documents, half irrelevant, the other half of the exhibits indiscernible. Instead of quickly discrediting mom, and mounting a solid defense, against, a "I said so therefore, it must be allegation", Ben was unprepared, and made us both look bad. If O.J. Simpson was found not guilty again for another murder, it would not be more egregious, it could not be anymore off base than the train wreck that Ben, and his “ wrecking crew”, managed to create for me. Unbelievably there is more, In the end I asked them, “ to file a substitution of attorney”, with the court so that I could get get their incompetent rear ends off my case, and of course they dragged their feet for another two weeks, and I was not able to file a “peremptory challenge” in time, to ask for a new judge for my upcoming motions. I was very nice, and did not bother them, while they were on my case, in fact, this is the first time I have expressed my frustration with them They did not put the work in that they billed me for, and therefore, Ben was unprepared for what should have been an easy case, a case that was textbook example of what female on male domestic violence looks like. "I said so, so therefore it must be evidence". I paid $8000 dollars,and it made my problem much.much worse. Horrible job!

Stay away from this Attorney !!!! I swear, this is the worst attorney I have ever dealt with. I hired Sami for my divorce case since June 2020 as he recommended by Yelp in San Diego area. From that time until now (May 2021) Sami has done nothing except submit the divorce papers in the court since June. I'm contacting him periodically by phone and email to inquire about what he is doing for the case, but without any response !!! Unfortunately, a whole year has been wasted for nothing!! I paid him a flat fee amount of $2,435 for nothing !! Again, don't lose your money and time. Don't hire this guy. I just want to comment on your reply to my review. Would you please explain which tasks you have completed? You do nothing!!!! You charged a flat fee for nothing, if you did something please explain it. Just check your email and phone and see how many emails and calls without any responses!!! Is that your professionalism to deal with your clients? Have you asked me for extra fee and I refused? You just let me wait for a whole year for nothing. I hired another attorney, she completed all the requirements and she got the trail within one month only!! Once again, you charged me the fees for nothing you did !!!

Sami is a great attorney, very knowledgable, professional, honest and efficient. He won't sugar coat or give you just the unswear you want to hear, but he is honest and compassionate. He empathizes with his clients. Divorcing was the hardest experience in my life. It was a difficult divorce and Sami was able to make it less stressful with his knowledge and personality. He has a way to calm things down. While lots of attorneys out there will try to escalate the conflicts in order to make more money, Sami will try to calm things down in order to solve the conflicts easier. Thank you Sami.

Second time I've worked with this law firm, specifically Mr. Matteson. On my own personal experience Scott and Matteson Family Law have worked in the most professional manner. They respond fast to all phone calls, message, etc. Mr. Matteson is on top of his game! Straight forward type of lawyer that will guide the case to the right path. Even though my case was dismissed on my behalf he always kept me on the loop as to what evidence is needed on my part to prove a compelling case. If I have to go back to family court again I will definitely hire Mr. Matteson again. Thank you!

Mr Scott has been in the game for a minute. He is well seasoned and very much respected within his profession. If your looking for the cream of the crop well god must be on your side , cause you found it!! Mr. Scott spent more time reviewing my case and taking the time to make sure I understood what the best plan was. He was knowledgeable, patient and kind. In my case, I tried to settle on my own. Opposing counsel was very aggressive and pushed me to a point where I had to hire someone. I am so thankful for James Scott and his office for guiding me through this difficult process. Mr. Scott educated me, protected me, and fought for me.
