After having a poor experience with another attorney, I set out to hire the *right* attorney. I went through an EXTENSIVE interview process with nearly ten attorneys. I narrowed the list down to three. When I chose Ralph Kerns, I contacted the other two attorneys and advised them of my choice, to which they both indicated I made a great choice. Respect from competitors is always a good sign. Ralph is a very good attorney. He understands domestic law very well and I would certainly recommend him with one caveat. Where his firm, and frankly I think many attorneys miss the boat is in the customer service department. The firm in general is not consistently pleasurable or prompt with replies to calls or emails. I did experience miss-communications on more than one occasion. I personally know many attorneys and this seems to be a very common issue. I don't know if it's that they are simply over worked or that they are just so wrapped up in what they do in the court room, that they forget how important it is to provide the service we as paying clients need... and deserve. If working with them were more enjoyable, I would have given them a 5+ star review. Another point about Ralph A. Kerns & Associates that I did like is they seem to bill quite fairly and do not nickle and dime. So if you are looking for a very skilled attorney at a reasonable rate and you have the patience to deal with average service, this firm is for you.

DO NOT HIRE RALPH KERNS. I am a former football player at Ohio State and a tech entrepreneur. I hired Ralph Kerns to defend me in my divorce case and it’s been three years and I still haven’t seen my children. He and the opposing party worked together to throw my case. He convinced me that it was a good idea to sign over the deed of my house to my ex wife in the middle of the divorce. And coerced me into signing the rights away to my children. He is for sale and the opposing party can buy him. Do not hire him and he should be facing litigation and his license should be suspended.

I used Doug Dougherty for my divorce in June 2010. I have found out over the years how well my divorce was written and handled with interactions between us and my husband's attorneys at the time. Doug Dougherty was my attorney for my divorce. Unfortunately I had 2 prior attorneys to Doug - my first went on medical leave for the 2 months leading up to my initial hearing so I had to make a quick change. My second was almost impossible to get a hold of and it actually cost me the ability to have expert witnesses at my trial. Things totally changed when I found Doug. He is responsive, thorough, attentive, and extremely smart. He is a multiple time winner at the Ohio Supreme court for a reason. I would first suggest never going through a divorce but if you do, Doug is who you want representing you. Also, on a personal level Doug is genuine and real and will do everything he can to help you. Had he been my first attorney I know my outcome would have been even better than what it turned out and I still got almost everything I wanted. As a divorce lawyer - she was OK. I chose her because she was honest and didn't promise anything. My major concern was that she didn't respond to emails at times and appeared unorganized. For example, after my divorce was final she sent me an email asking if I wanted my court documents and of course charged me 15 mins just to ask me that. I replied with a yes and asked for a time to pick them up. She never bothered to respond to my email.
