Called and spoke to them. Was promised a call back about an urgent group of questions and seeing if they could represent me. I was told I’d be called back the next day, instead a week later I had to call to see if they forgot about me. I was informed they couldn’t help and would have someone else call me with a list of referrals. During a time like this being treated with just a bit of respect for my time would have changed my entire view. If after a week of knowing you couldn’t help me and my family you could have a page in my file with a list of referrals. I will not wait again in hopes you follow through with a call tomorrow. For future possible clients: Treat them like you or your family would like to be treated during a loss of a family member. Just with respect for people’s time and transparency on possible responses. If it’s going to be a week tell me a week not the next day.

I would never use their services again or recommend to anyone . In fact when I know of someone looking for assistance in law or family matters I tell them to steer away from this office . The ladies behind the desk were excellent to work with, always providing as much information as they could . Nathan however I feel was very unprofessional, rude, inconsiderate and does not listen to his client at all. It’s what he wants. You work for me ! Not the other way around . Poor communication. I had emergency court dates that I did not get because he failed to notify me . Every time I sat down to speak with him I had to give him a re run of the case. As if he didn’t have paperwork in front of him or as if it’s not his job to do these things . Would call me 10 mins before court to talk, with a month in between each date there’s plenty of time to call besides ten mins before ! Highly disliked !

I was referred to Hilton Estate & Elder Law because they specialize in Estate Trusts. I live in NYC but due to their excellent reputation with Estate Trusts I chose to travel to Utica which is about a three and a half hour drive. Within three appointments over ten weeks I had a fully executed Estate Revocable Living Trust. During the first appointment we went over my net worth and he explained all the information that he would need for the second appointment. During the second appointment I provided a package with all the requested documents and went over any questions. The final meeting was for me to read through the trust for accuracy and signing the documents. Throughout the entire process they made me feel very comfortable and answered all my questions. My father did his estate planning with Ettinger, so when he passed away, I (as his executor) worked with them. (I live in another state, and am therefore unfamiliar with New York law, and New York lawyers.) POSITIVES: 1) Their fee (1% of estate value) seems to be on par with industry standards. 2) They had helped my father to simplify his estate, by putting all his assets in trust. This made my job much easier! NEGATIVES: 1) Not being either a financial or legal expert myself, I was rather disconcerted when they gave me advice (regarding my father's brokerage account) that directly contradicted the advice I was given by my father's financial advisor -- who should I believe? 2) I was underwhelmed by the paralegal, who on a number of occasions seemed unprepared for conversations with me that she herself had initiated (e.g., not knowing the dollar amounts of the bequests my father made to my children). 3) There were some instances where the attorney and/or paralegal neglected to tell me something significant, and I later obtained the information only because I asked specific questions. At the end of the day, I just felt that they didn't work very hard for the considerable amount of money that they were paid. My only basis of comparison is the estate-planning attorney I worked with in my own home state, who was a veritable fountain of information and guidance.
