I can't recommend Law office of Inna Fershteyn high enough for estate planning and Medicaid planning for elderly. We had an emergency situation where irrevocable trust had to be set up and Medicaid had to be obtained right away and Inna and her team prepared all documents for my relatives in less than one week. Inna is truly the best elder care lawyer in NY.

One of my retired indecisive relatives asked me find an experience Russian speaking attorney who specializes in estate planning and wills. While there are many attorneys in these areas of law, I needed to find the one who would be able to explain to my relative and I similar information multiple times. So, as usual I checked reviews on google, made bunch of calls and then visited around six Russian-speaking attorneys in Shepheard Bay and Brighton Beach area. Since my relative had a complicated estate planning and Will that involved sizable part of her estate to be donated to two major universities, we decided to hire Inna Fershteyn or as my relative called her "Innochka" :-) once we got acquainted… Inna is an excellent attorney with great sense of humor. She is very patient and I guess she understands that not all people can comprehend information after hearing it just once. Inna took extra time to listen what my relative wanted and then explained to her various approaches in estate planning, especially one related to the donation to universities. Hired Stan for 2 grandparent estates and 1 real estate contract. Mixed feelings. Fixed price estate service he offers gets you a filing and letters of administration. To the consumer this may seem like a start to finish, but guess what: if you have no idea about the probate process you wouldn't know. Hey, at least it got halfway done. Retainer agreement overly vague, stating "advise generally about the administration of the estate" which pretty much means you are on your own once those letters testamentary arrive, so ask those questions before the final payment. After we got those letters, and once that final payment was made, he basically told me the relationship was over. He graciously did a few chaotic/combative/unproductive consultations that amounted to lip service asking me to please deposit 2000 bucks or else get lost. I have no clue how to close out my grandma and grandpa's estates, I tried reading the checklists posted by the NYC courts, still no idea what to do. I think some final accounting and closing statements need to be filed, but Stan never gave me any notes on how the probate process works. Nor does he even have a synopsis to share. Also: he resists emails and calls you instead. It's convenient for him but sucks for people who work. People can't take sensitive calls around coworkers. He was adequate to get the most urgent stuff done, yes we actually had 2 attorneys that were way worse (nothing done at all and 1000s spent) but for the money lawyers need clients have the right to be treated with respect, their documents sent when they become available (not 6 months late, he sat on the originals so long they were expired) and given some progress reports without having to ask first. Hell how about responding to emails (except on Jewish Holidays) Cashes checks many weeks after I send them. Lost 1 of my checks and needed it replaced (says I never sent, I disagree). Ho hum. Back to the drawing board. I takes a lot of patience to deal with this attorney. I do think he is honest but likely overwhelmed by too many customers.

I paid Barton Levine for a will and last testament, and have no received it. I began the process in September 2020, and after some correspondence with him, I contacted his office in early December to check on the status of the will. Levine told me he had sent me the will in mid-November. I asked for the tracking number. He said he would have to look for it and get back to me, which he did not. I asked him to send me another will. He refused, saying he was in Florida and the matter would have to wait until he returned to his NYS offices in early January. I then phoned him, and he told me he was very ill and could not send out the will. Two weeks later, he emailed me, giving me a date upon which I should receive the will, and to contact him if I did not receive it. I did not receive the will on that date. When I emailed him, my emails (three of them) were blocked. When I phoned his office to ask for the tracking number of the envelope containing my will, a secretary told me she did not have that information. I paid for a will in full last autumn, and I'm still waiting for it.
